Meet Renuka Soll

Civic Engagement

Renuka serves as Chair of the Parks, Greenways, and Recreation Commission. She is also the Treasurer and Board member of North Carolinians against Gun Violence (NCGV). In 2022, Renuka received NCGV's Effie Steele Memorial Award "in recognition of tireless advocacy for the safety of North Carolinians." She organized Gun Give Back Events in Chapel Hill in 2019, 2021, and 2022. Renuka is a proud graduate of Chapel Hill’s first People’s Academy and of Chapel Hill’s Community Police Academy.

Active Volunteer

Renuka has been living in Chapel Hill for 18 years. She has been the PTA president, treasurer, and secretary. She has served on the board as treasurer for her neighborhood HOA, and continues to be a board member and an interest group leader for Duke's Campus Club (an organization for women). She rides the trails with the Chapel Hill high school mountain biking team as a parent coach. She is a co-founder and writing coach to help students who are the first in their families to go to college with their college applications free of charge. Previously, she tutored a student for his successful completion of his GED through Orange County Literacy.

Education and Work Experience

Renuka has a BA from Wellesley College, MS in Computer Information Systems from Bentley University, and an MBA from the University of Chicago. Currently, she works as a literacy tutor at New Hope Elementary school. She started her career with Searle pharmaceuticals in Chicago in market research, sales, and as a product manager. She also marketed Executive Education programs for INSEAD in Fontainebleau, France where she lived abroad for 7 years. Renuka has management experience and knows how to get things done. She will utilize her strong analytical and collaborative skills.

Family

Renuka has been married to Jack (a professor at Duke University) for 29 years, and they have 2 children. Her son works as a software engineer. Her daughter is getting her Master's degree at UNCG in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Renuka enjoys spending time with family and friends, mountain biking, CrossFit, reading, and watching movies and musicals.
